S c e n a r i o Increasing requirements to utilize Internet technologies created the need for the GSA to build a system to maximize its human capital and intellectual capital assets and share them nationwide. The Public Building Services Division of the GSA asked GCM to develop a web application that would allow GSA personnel to quickly access employee information, locate persons with specific types of expertise and provide a central repository of information for a wide variety of topics and subjects. S o l u t i o n GCM created the GSA InfoCenter, a large-scale intranet portal that tightly integrated two related components: The ResourceBank and the KnowledgeBank. The ResourceBank is a database of information about employees, contractors, vendors and others. Each individual is categorized according to specialty and expertise, allowing any other individual within the system to quickly find someone with a specific skill set or knowledge on a specific topic. The KnowledgeBank is a document and knowledge management system that allowed all users to contribute files, articles and web links, and to categorize and manage content and submissions. Featuring advanced, completely browser-based administration capabilities, the GSA InfoCenter supports over 11,000 users nationwide. |
